Lillestrøm, Norway
The goal of this project was to create a distinct yet cohesive identity for Grønn Strøm Lillestrøm. They wanted a logo variation that set them apart from the main company while still being recognizable as part of the Grønn Strøm brand. The new design needed to incorporate "Lillestrøm" in a visually meaningful way, ideally integrating elements of electricity.
One of the main challenges was maintaining brand consistency while giving Grønn Strøm Lillestrøm its own identity. The logo had to feel like a natural extension of the Grønn Strøm brand while standing out enough to be recognizable on its own. Another challenge was incorporating a cable motif into the design without making it too complex or difficult to read. The client wanted the word "Lillestrøm" to resemble a power cable leading to the lightbulb, so I had to find a way to balance readability with symbolism. Lastly, I needed to ensure the design remained simple yet creative. It had to be visually engaging but still functional for different uses, such as signage and merchandise.
To address these challenges, I chose to use a simple cursive script for "Lillestrøm" that subtly mimicked the shape of a cable. After several iterations, I adjusted the thickness and curvature of the script to ensure it was both elegant and easily readable. This refined approach helped maintain a professional and modern look while fulfilling the client's vision.
The final design was well-received by Grønn Strøm Lillestrøm. The new logo maintained a clean and professional aesthetic, making it versatile for various applications, including branding materials and merchandise like tote bags.
This project demonstrated how a small but thoughtful design change can effectively distinguish a sub-brand while keeping it connected to the main company. The use of a simple yet symbolic element, like cursive text resembling a cable, proved to be more impactful than an overly complex illustration. Additionally, the collaboration process and multiple design iterations played a crucial role in refining and perfecting the final outcome.
